Oncology massage

Are you or somebody you know living with cancer? If so, I would like to inform you of a new service available at our clinic.

Kelly Schell, RMT just completed a course on oncology massage. In this course Kelly learned about chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries and other factors that one must consider when providing massage therapy for a person living with cancer. She learned how to safely treat individuals currently undergoing conventional cancer treatments, those who have just finished treatment, and those who are in remission.

Oncology massage is not part of the core curriculum for Registered Massage Therapists in Ontario. In fact, it was once taught that cancer is a contraindication for receiving massage therapy. After returning from this course, Kelly and I realized just how important it is for a person living with cancer to seek out a therapist with training and confidence in providing oncology massage.

Massage therapy can help with some of the side effects of cancer treatment, including nausea, anxiety, pain and insomnia. When provided safely, it can be an important and pleasant part of your treatment plan.

If you would like to learn more about oncology massage and find out if it’s right for you, please contact Kelly Schell RMT.
